As part of the mission of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Parramatta, the Safeguarding Legal Specialist is accountable for the management and investigation of Safeguarding matters, in addition to coordinating legal matters and claims and responding to requests for information. The Safeguarding Legal Specialist is also responsible for raising awareness of Safeguarding through the provision of training and education across our schools.

 

The Opportunity

We have an exciting role available in our Safeguarding team for a Safeguarding  Legal Specialist. This is a great role for someone who is looking to broaden their experience and share their expertise as a subject matter expert in Safeguarding. 

The Safeguarding Legal Specialist is accountable for:

  • Collaborating with stakeholders in the coordination of safeguarding legal matters for CSPD and associated tasks including preparing briefing papers, attending settlement conferences and mediations, record management, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.

  • Conducting factual investigations in relation to child protection matters including undertaking i​nterviews, risk assessments and detailed documentation, as well as liaising with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. OCG, DCJ, NSW Police and legal firms)

  • Contributing to the design and delivery of Safeguarding training to improve practices across schools

  • Supporting the continuous development and review of safeguarding policies, procedures and guidelines

  • Managing and responding to queries and requests for information, including supporting the RFI Officer with conducting requests for information

The Qualifications 

To be successful in this highly rewarding role you will be a passionate and experienced Safeguarding professional along with the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in the relevant area of study (Legal, paralegal, or relevant background and/or experience in safeguarding practices and policies)  

  • Experience within a similar role is ideal but not mandatory (we are open to transferable skills)

  • An understanding of the difficult content that may be present in some aspects of the work and discussion within the office.

  • Experience with Reportable Conduct Scheme and Child Safe Standards

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • An Australian drivers licence
