About the opportunity:

The Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) is inviting applications from passionate teachers to support an unprecedented number of newly arrived students who are learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D). The successful person will support these students in the early stages of their English language proficiency, facilitate their orientation to Australian schooling and help them to develop their language and literacy skills so they will be able to participate in mainstream learning.

This position is permanent full-time. 

Accountabilities

The Specialist Teacher is accountable for:

  • Teaching, assessing and evaluating the progress of newly arrived EAL/D students using the ESL scales and EAL/D learning progression

  • Working collaboratively with teachers to develop programs, practices, strategies and resources which support the English language and literacy learning of newly arrived EAL/D students

  • Providing advice on appropriate modes of delivery that best meet the needs of newly arrived EAL/D students

  • Providing expert advice to leadership teams, teachers and the wider system on matters related to specific newly arrived EAL/D students in accordance with CSPD guidelines

  • Creating inclusive practice in school culture in relation to the effective implementation of personalised learning for newly arrived students

  • Contributing to the leadership, design and delivery of professional learning with a focus on building teacher capacity to meet the needs of EAL/D students 

To be successful:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Education

  • Experience in EAL/D education

  • Statements of Service

  • Working with Children Check clearance

  • Sound knowledge of and commitment to our Catholic faith and mission in Catholic education
