The Student Support Directorate is seeking a Leading Counsellor to work in partnership with school communities to effectively implement a multi-tiered system of support to promote student wellbeing and attendance across the Diocese. This is a permanent full time position!

As part of the mission of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Parramatta, the Leading Counsellor is accountable for supporting the system's strategic intent of improving learning outcomes for all students.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Join an interdisciplinary team of teachers, social workers and other wellbeing practitioners who oversee and support the systemic rollout and implementation of multi-tiered systems of support to improve student outcomes.
  • Work as part of the Wellbeing strategy team to lead the development, implementation and maintenance of CSPD attendance policy and procedures
  • Be a subject matter expert in attendance and a conduit in the development and maintenance of CSPD enterprise systems (data, student information and compliance systems) that support best practice in attendance 
  • Collaborate and consult with teachers in schools and system leaders to facilitate professional growth and build capacity to implement effective learning and attendance support interventions
  • Collaborate with school teams to promote partnerships with parents, carers and community 

About you

To be successful you will demonstrate alignment to our purpose and values, together with: 

  • Demonstrated experience in leading counsellors and school teams
  • A strong knowledge base in systems thinking and how systems intersect
  • An interest in student attendance
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in social work and / or psychology along with a minimum of three years’ experience as a registered psychologist or social worker
  • Be a registered psychologist or a social worker eligible for membership of the  Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Have the capacity to make a significant contribution within schools to matters related to student welfare and wellbeing
  • Demonstrate evidence based professionally informed judgement in dealing with sensitive issues
  • Demonstrate the capacity to engage students, parents and teachers in the counselling process
  • The capability to facilitate parent and care-giver education
  • Be supportive of our Catholic ethos
