About the role
The role of the Leading Teacher - Behaviour Support Team and MLZ is to support school leadership teams and teachers in building their capacity to effectively respond to the behavioural, wellbeing and learning needs of identified students. The Leading Teacher will work collaboratively with schools to implement proactive strategies, enhance inclusive practices and strengthen teacher capability through mentoring, coaching and professional learning.
Marist Learning Zone - Mount Druitt MLZ provides an alternative, high-support learning environment for students in CSPD schools supporting them with their wellbeing or attendance. The purpose of the MLZ program is to provide:

An alternative education pathway offering CSPD students who require higher levels of support to connect or reconnect with learning, the workforce or with other relevant educational opportunities

A program for students who have disengaged from participating in formal learning environments and which offers them an opportunity to re-engage with learning in an educational setting
Main Duties
Behaviour Team:

Work within a busy and dynamic team, with your own case load. Work in partnership with a Leading Counsellor and other specialist team members.

Work collaboratively with school leadership teams, classroom teachers and CSPD specialist teams to support the implementation of behaviour support plans and risk management strategies.

Build teacher and leadership capacity through mentoring, coaching, modelling effective practice and facilitating professional learning opportunities.

Lead and support the design and delivery of targeted learning experiences and proactive behaviour support strategies for students with complex and challenging behaviours.

Collaborate with schools and CSPD personnel in the review and evaluation of behaviour support plans and intervention strategies.

Support schools in strengthening inclusive and evidence-informed practices that improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

Attend weekly team meetings with the Behaviour team, as well as relevant school staff meetings and briefings as required.
Main Duties
MLZ
-
Work in a small setting with other educators to support students with complex needs in small groups and 1:1, where appropriate.

Implement individual student plans for learning, behaviour and attendance.

Provide ongoing support and adjustments to learning activities for the students at MLZ.

Provide expertise around diversity and inclusion to school teams and the wider Student Support directorate.

Work collaboratively with case managers from the Behaviour Support and Attendance team.

Travel to schools to meet with school teams about students on your case load.

Attend MLZ meetings, case conferences, briefings and formation events.
About You
To be successful, you will demonstrate alignment to our purpose and values, together with:

Tertiary qualifications in teaching, with at least 4 years classroom experience (primary and/or secondary)

Appropriate demonstrated experience working with students with complex needs and supporting teachers within mainstream educational settings

Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills with the ability to build effective partnerships with school leadership teams and staff

Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach and lead professional learning to build teacher capacity and improve student outcomes
