St Joseph’s is seeking a motivated Grounds & Maintenance Worker who takes pride in creating vibrant, well-kept outdoor spaces that support a welcoming and safe school environment. This part-time role operates four days per week (59 hours per fortnight), Monday, Tuesday & Friday 7:00am to 3:00pm and Thursday 7:00am to 2:30pm. While the role includes general maintenance duties, the heart of this position is providing support across the school, including but not limited to gardening, cleaning, building and grounds maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

You must demonstrate the ability to:

  • non-specialised repair work
  • maintain garden beds, lawns, pathways, signage and outdoor areas to a consistently high standard
  • perform mowing, hedging, pruning, weeding and seasonal planting
  • respond promptly to outdoor cleaning and repair needs following weather events, student incidents or similar situations
  • perform daily security routines, including opening the school and disarming alarms when starting/finishing a shift.
  • remain observant and proactive, picking up rubbish, reporting hazards and identifying damaged items
  • assist with moving furniture, classroom resources and setting up equipment for sports and special events
  • represent the school positively in all interactions with staff, students and visitors
  • undertake minor repairs such as painting, plastering and basic carpentry
  • manage multiple responsibilities within a busy school environment
  • organise your workflow to meet established goals and deadlines
  • welcome, induct and escort contractors on site
  • identify and report risks to the Principal, Senior Administration Office and/or School Business Manager
  • follow correct chemical handling and storage procedures, particularly for gardening and cleaning products
  • adhere to WHS standards at all times
  • use technology and IT systems proficiently to support daily tasks
  • undertake any other duties as requested by the Principal and/or Principal’s Delegate.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, the following below is a mandatory requirement:

  • Does not have a trade qualification (Certificate III), but has a skill level which assumes and requires knowledge, training or experience relevant to the duties to be performed however, highly desirable;
  • Undergo a Medical Clearance with our partnering provider to satisfactory completion;
  • Valid Working with Children Check
  • Valid Australian Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability to operate ground machinery and maintenance tools safely.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a team.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
