Ground Maintenance Officer - St Oliver's Primary Harris Park

St Oliver’s Primary School, Harris Park is seeking a reliable and motivated Grounds Maintenance & Facilities Officer to join our team in a temporary part-time capacity, working two days per week (7:00am – 1:30pm), preferably Mondays and Thursdays.

This hands-on role is essential in maintaining a safe, functional and welcoming environment for our students, staff and visitors. Working closely with the Principal and Business Manager, you will support the day-to-day upkeep of the school’s grounds and facilities.

About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking general maintenance and handyman tasks (including basic carpentry, plumbing, painting and minor repairs), ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with WHS requirements

  • Maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the school grounds, including rubbish collection, minor landscaping, mowing and general gardening duties

  • Assisting with deliveries, contractor coordination and the set-up of school events as required

  • Locking and unlocking buildings and gates, and operating the school’s security systems

  • A trade qualification is not required; however, relevant experience, practical skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant experience in grounds maintenance, general maintenance or a similar hands-on role

  • Practical skills across a range of minor repair and maintenance tasks
    Sound understanding of Workplace Health & Safety requirements

  • The ability to work independently and manage time effectively

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean and safe environment

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and contractors

  • Working with Children Check clearance

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications (desirable)

Work, Health and Safety

  • Work must be performed within nominated areas and hours to ensure that WHS and security policies, procedures and arrangements are not breached;

  • Personal protective equipment must be used for relevant tasks, including sun protection for workers engaged in outdoor activities;

  • Appropriate footwear is required at all times;

  • Adhere to safety procedures to carry out all tasks with care.
